Bay Area man charged in drunk driving accident

Alcohol consumption impairs judgment, which often results in intoxicated drivers getting behind the wheel of a car despite a lifetime of obeying the law and good decision making. The best way to avoid the consequences of a DUI offense is not to drive, but when alcohol is making the decisions, that’s not always an option.

On March 24, 2013, a 23-year-old Bay Area man spent some time at two bars in a city just across the bay from San Mateo. Before heading home, he stopped at a local Taco Bell restaurant to get some food. After trying to pay for his food with a medical ID card and becoming belligerent with the restaurant employees, the police were notified. By the time law enforcement caught up the Mini Cooper, it had left the restaurant and was traveling at speeds in excess of 80 mph, despite speed limits of 40 mph or less.
