More women arrested in California for DUI than ever before

According to a new report by KPCC, a public radio station in California, the number of women who have been arrested for driving under the influence is increasing. The data used for the report was from the California Department of Motor Vehicles over the last 20 years. The latest data available was from 2011.

The results were surprising. Compared to 1989, the number of women arrested in 2011 for DUI in the state jumped 11 percent. From 1999 to 2011, arrests in Los Angeles County increased by around 134 percent for women between 21 and 30 years old. There were also huge increases during the same time for women who were over 50 years old. The largest jump of women in that demographic was 81 percent for those 51 to 60 years old. In contrast, the number of men arrested for DUI has dropped in Los Angeles County, except for men 51 to 70 years old.
