San Francisco police sergeant accused of drunk driving

On behalf of The Law Offices of Michael L. Davidson posted in Drunk Driving Charges on Monday, October 21, 2013.

Everyone is subject to making a mistake. Of course, some slips in better judgment have more serious consequences than others. For example, people who are typically responsible can have one too many alcoholic drinks and get behind the wheel of a vehicle. Even though a person may not feel intoxicated, he or she might be over the legal blood-alcohol limit.

Not long ago, a San Francisco police sergeant was arrested and struck with drunk driving charges. The officer was reportedly involved in a car accident with a parked vehicle and left the scene. Police responded to a witness report and followed debris to the cop’s house.

Although reports don’t detail what exactly happened when officers arrived at the sergeant’s house, it’s clear that he was taken into custody and released the following day. A spokesperson for law enforcement also commented that he didn’t know what the sergeant’s blood-alcohol concentration was at the time of his arrest.

It’s likely that the police sergeant fully understands California’s drunk driving laws. Even though he is committed to serving his community, he is now facing charges for driving under the influence of alcohol.

In this case, the police sergeant is entitled to the same legal rights and protections as everyone else who is accused of DUI. As the case moves forward, it will be important to carefully examine the evidence collected by police before they made the arrest. If field sobriety or blood-alcohol tests were conducted improperly, that evidence may not be admissible in court. As such, the outcome of the trial could be affected by the strength of the evidence offered by law enforcement.
